Source-Sink Manipulation and Its Impacts on Canola Seed Filling Period

Canola yield production is driven by the balance between source (leaves) and sink (pods seeds) activity during reproductive period of a crop. However, previous literature has not reported impact source-sink limitations under different nitrogen (N) supplies, its effect on seed filling. Therefore, objectives this study were to 1) explore manipulations filling main parameters: duration rate; 2) understand interactions N supply explain variations in weight. With these objectives, field experiment was conducted 2019–2020 2020–2021 (Kansas, U.S.). One winter canola hybrid tested two fertilization levels (0 134 lb/a), three modifications (control; reduced sink, 50% pod removal at setting; source, 100% defoliation setting). The treatment resulted larger weight relative control. longer for control rest treatments. Even though no significant differences found with fertilization, highest values obtained high level (134 lb/a).
